CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Elegance, grace, and a touch of cheek are the hallmarks of a classic feather fan dance. Popularized by Sally Rand, Jean Idelle, and other dancers of a bygone era, the captivating combination of poise and dexterity makes this one of the most popular burlesque and cabaret dance styles!

This 12-week series, taught by Lola LeSoleil, is divided into two 6-week sessions. The first 6-weeks will include:

  • Introducing different styles of performance fans, sources, and selection considerations

  • Learning foundational feather fan holds, poses, and manipulation

  • Developing strength, coordination, and flexibility in arms, hands, shoulders, and back

  • Learning the art of tease reveals with feather fans

  • Learning basic feather fan care and maintenance

The second 6-weeks will focus on a group choreography incorporating fan techniques learned in the prior 6-weeks.

Please wear comfortable activewear that allows free movement. Recommended footwear includes small 2-3 inch heel strapped shoes,  jazz flats, salsa shoes, or barefoot. Class feather fans are available to students, or provide your own.

Each class will be taught on the same day every week (with the exception of the days listed above) for a total of twelve (12) weeks broken into two (2) six-week sessions.
