Class Description
Instructor: Ada Manzhart 12/9 10:00 AM -12:00 PM Self-identification/Personal Development: “Working Within” • Core Values: learning about the foundation of who we are by identifying what really matters to us (see exercises 1 in packet) • The Stories We Tell Ourselves, How/Why They Limit Us, & How to Rewrite Them: readjusting self-talk through affirmation (see reference example 1: list of affirmations), identifying black & white thinking and the resulting projection, and learning how to notice, label, and check-in with one’s emotions with neutrality and grace as a means to build emotional maturity (see reference example 2: emotions wheel). • How we build self-trust in journey: Introducing concepts and practices to create simple and consistent personal commitments to build self-respect and challenge limiting beliefs, engaging in conversation with and meeting the needs of our inner child (a very brief introduction to reparenting), prioritizing intention over self-confidence. Multiracial trans-masculine performance artist, competitive bodybuilder, and 2022 Retro Lovely Pinup Magazine's 1st Pride Edition cover model, Ada Manzhart aka "The Centerfold Who Will Fold You in Half!" has been performing since 2014, upon graduating from the Atlanta School of Burlesque with the mentorships of Ursula Undress and The Chameleon. Ada's journey into burlesque was born during his academic pursuit of fine arts with a personal focus in Pinup Illustration. Ada's artistic mission as a burlesque entertainer is to open the discussion of the cross-section between gender and sexual expression, the trans experience in burlesque, and what it means to entice, be vulnerable, and truly connect with an audience. As a teacher, they provide their insights, personal practices, and tools for identifying and gracefully navigating the ego-centricity often found in performance art spaces with the intention of creating a more community-focused art form. "Burlesque is the practice of falling in love with yourself on a stage." About Metropolitan Studios: Drenched 110 years of charm, Metropolitan Studios Arts & Movement Community is an affordable creative space in the heart of Atlanta’s East Atlanta Village. We are an event venue, community gathering space, and Atlanta, Georgia’s Burlesque & Cabaret House, home to The Atlanta School of Burlesque and the award-winning Candybox Revue burlesque entertainment troupe.
