Class Description
Instructor: Lola LeSoleil Mondays, 7:30 PM - 8:45 PM Six (6) weeks 10/2-11/6 Elegance, grace, and a touch of cheek are the hallmarks of a classic feather fan dance. Popularized by Sally Rand, Jean Idelle, and other dancers of a bygone era, the captivating combination of poise and dexterity makes this one of the most popular burlesque and cabaret dance styles! This 12-week series, taught by Lola LeSoleil, is divided into two 6-week sessions. This 6-weeks will include: - Introducing different styles of feather or vegan fans, sources, and how to decide which is the best investment to suit you - Foundational fan holds, poses, and fan manipulation techniques - Developing strength and flexibility in arms, hands, shoulders, and back, and any adaptive modifications - Using facial expressions to enhance performance - Learning the art of tease reveals with feather fans - Silk fans are provided for the first six weeks for technique and strength-building while you consider your fan options. - Class drills and combos will be adapted into a group choreography. NOTE: This series is designed for full-size fans. Choreography for the full-size fans will comprise the second six-week session. Have your fans by 11/13 (class #7 - will require sign up for session 2). There is no striptease in this course. Please wear comfortable activewear for free movement and bring DANCE/CHARACTER shoes. A small 2-3-inch heel with a strapped shoe is recommended if you don't have any. Other acceptable footwear includes jazz flats, salsa shoes, or barefoot. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: 1. Evaluate movement skills in terms of space, time, and force, and reproduce accurately through their own body. 2. Analyze a dance performance in terms of choreography, performance, and theatrical elements. 3. Demonstrate clarity of intent while applying kinesthetic principles for all dance elements. 4. Incorporate performance fan props while maintaining dance form and formation.
