At Metropolitan Studios in East Atlanta, home of The Atlanta School of Burlesque, we offer movement and performance classes that center inclusivity, accessibility, and community. Not just as buzzwords, but as a practice.

What Do We Mean by Inclusive Dance?

Inclusive dance means more than “everyone’s welcome.” It means:

• Welcoming all body types, abilities, gender identities, and backgrounds

• Offering beginner-friendly and adaptive classes

• Centering body neutrality, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and marginalized voices in both instruction and curriculum

• Creating a space that is consent-based, accountable, and performance-optional

We believe that dance belongs to everyone, and narrow ideas of what a dancer “should” look like have no place here.

Our studio is a queer-owned, femme-led space that’s home to people from all walks of life. We offer weekly drop-in classes, beginner series, and performance opportunities for those who want them, but with no pressure to get on stage.

Here’s how we design our classes:

• Body-neutral, not body-shaming. We don’t talk about “burning calories” or “fixing” your body. No. We focus on connection, presence, and strength in all its forms.

• No experience needed. Whether you've never danced before or are returning after years away, you’ll be met with patience, encouragement, and community support.

• You’ll never be touched without consent. You’re always encouraged to modify or opt out. Your “no” is always respected.
