Start Sewing with Wild Sage: Learn how to use a machine to sew shit!
Do you want to learn to sew but don’t know where to start? Do you have a sewing machine collecting dust because the learning curve felt too steep? You aren’t alone. Traditionally, handicrafts like sewing were passed down through community circles, where generations shared the tips, tricks, and shortcuts that make all the difference.
In this three-hour intensive, Wild Sage revives that tradition, guiding you through the fundamentals of machine sewing in a supportive, hands-on environment. We will demystify the process, troubleshoot common frustrations, and get you comfortable behind the needle. By the end of class, you’ll have the skills to start your own projects and a finished piece to take home!
In this workshop, you will learn:
Machine Essentials: Basic setup, operation, and essential maintenance.
Troubleshooting: Identifying the most common issues and how to fix (or avoid) them.
Fabric Prep: How to measure and cut fabric for professional results.
Technical Skills: Sewing straight lines, turning corners, and how to "lock in" your stitches.
Pro Tips: What interfacing is, why it matters, and how to use it.
Required Materials:
Fabric Scissors: Must be new or only used for fabric (dull scissors are a sewer's enemy!).
Ruler: 12” or longer.
Straight Pins: 1.5” or longer.
Pressing Cloth: A light/neutral/undyed ~18” square of close-woven natural fiber (100% cotton, linen, or silk organza).
Note-taking materials: Whatever method works best for you.

Your sewing machine (with power cord, accessories, and correct bobbins).
All-purpose thread (any color).
Fabric marking tools (non-staining chalk, marker, or pen).
