Class Description

Instructor: Minnie Mercury Schedule: Sundays 4:15 - 5:45 PM Dates: August 11th - September 8th (No Class September 1st) Dress Rehearsal: September 7th Student Recital: September 28th Price: $125 Storytelling, characterization, and intention are all necessities when creating a burlesque act. Our resident theatre monger, Minnie Mercury, will help you learn all three of these very important skills and more! This 4-week course helps you develop a solo act from the foundation up by teaching you how to put character and story at the forefront of your creative process. By way of theatre games, character worksheets, interactive group discussion, peer feedback, and various acting exercises, your stripping story will begin to be crystal clear, and you will have a foundation for building all of your future burlesque numbers. This course will not result in a performance in the Summer Sizzle Student Showcase, but you will gain skills to help you excel in our Burlesque III and IV Fall Burlesque Academy! You will leave this course with a strong background on how to form a connection with audiences through storytelling, and to make bolder character choices. Please be mindful of your attendance at all classes. Your attendance is essential for your future development as well as participating in class discussions and giving peer feedback. Each class will be taught on the same day every week (excluding one blackout date on 9/1) for a total of four (4) weeks. Learning Outcomes: • Learn how to develop a character for a solo burlesque act • Practice storytelling and character development techniques via exercises, worksheets, and games • Have collaborative feedback discussions with your classmates and instructors • Be better informed on how to choose music to tell your story and vice versa What to bring: • Dance/character shoes or strapped toe shoes with a 2–3-inch heel. Other acceptable footwear includes jazz flats, salsa shoes, or barefoot • Water About Us: Drenched in 115 years of charm, Metropolitan Studios Arts & Movement Community is an affordable creative space in the heart of Atlanta’s East Atlanta Village.
