150 US dollars
Metropolitan Avenue Southeast

Class Description

Instructor: Lola LeSoliel Schedule: Wednesdays, 8:15 PM - 9:15 PM Four (4) weeks + student showcase Session 2: 2/11 - 3/4 Dress Rehearsal: 3/21 Showcase Dates: 4/11 Price: $150 This beginner burlesque class familiarizes you with burlesque history, language, and movement styles of this multifaceted American art form. No experience necessary! We'll start the journey with a foundation of essential jazz dance moves such as box steps, pivots, three-step turns and stage walks. But it's not just about the steps! Along the way we'll expand the path with signature burlesque energy and style using tension, tempo, and timing. By the end, you'll have mastered a fully choreographed routine as part of a stunning chorus line. This is a group dance series, so consistent attendance is key! Your presence is essential for perfecting the choreography and creating a show-stopping ensemble. Students are expected to provide basic "dance blacks" (black character shoes, black fishnets, black bra, and black shorts). Learning Outcomes: • One (1) choreographed routine per series • Evaluate movement skills in terms of space, time, and force and reproduce accurately through the movement of your body. • Receive a skill evaluation. Those who meet performance criteria may be eligible to perform in smaller studio shows. • Analyze a dance performance in terms of choreography, performance, and theatrical elements. • Demonstrate clarity of intent while applying kinesthetic principles for all dance elements. • Incorporate characterization while maintaining dance form and formation. What to Bring: • Dance/character shoes or strapped toe shoes with a 2–3-inch heel. • Other acceptable footwear includes jazz flats, salsa shoes, or barefoot. • Water About Us: Drenched 110 years of charm, Metropolitan Studios Arts & Movement Community is an affordable creative space in the heart of Atlanta’s East Atlanta Village.
