CLASS DESCRIPTION: 


Please note this class can be taken as an academy session only. There will not be a progressive offering.


This burlesque class focuses on the art of the strip tease! Join Roula Roulette as she guides you through sensual, sexy peels! Students in this course will be able to perform at the Spring Academy Recital.   


This class is suitable for veteran and new strippers! Striptease familiarizes you with the fundamentals of creating a cohesive striptease performance, including: 

  • Costuming Sourcing / Creation 

  • Creating choreography that lends itself to a seamless reveal

  • Incorporate striptease & character development in a performance while maintaining dance form and formation.  


This class will guide students through the costume creation and sourcing process with emphasis on providing support in the construction process as well as culminating in a fully realized routine to be performed at the Student Showcase.   


Semester Breakdown:

  • Week 1: Class Introduction

  • Week 2: Costume Design

  • Week 3 - 6: Costume Build/Sourcing

  • Week 7-10: Choreography

  • Week 11: Dress Rehearsal 

  • Week 12: Recital Prep


This 12-week course will culminate in a group act (to be performed at the student recital in January. 


Please be mindful of your attendance at all classes. Your attendance is essential for the group dance choreography and to develop your personal act. Each class will be taught on the same day every week for 12 weeks, minus holidays.  


Students are expected to provide basic "dance blacks" - black character shoes, black fishnets, black bra, and black shorts.


LEARNING OUTCOMES


  • Learn one (1) choreographed routine.  

  • Conceptualization of costuming to include sourcing and construction.  

  • Learn to evaluate movement skills in terms of space, time, and force, and reproduce accurately through your own body. 

  • Analyze a dance performance in terms of choreography, performance, and theatrical elements.

  • Demonstrate clarity of intent while applying kinesthetic principles for all dance elements.  

  • Receive a skill assessment. Those who meet performance criteria may be eligible to perform in a Candybox Revue burlesque stage show or future student showcase with an instructor.


WHAT TO BRING: 


  • Dance/character shoes or strapped-toe shoes with a 2-3-inch heel. 

  • Other acceptable footwear include jazz flats, salsa shoes or barefoot.

  • Kneepads

  • Water
